Payroll Administrator

September 26, 2017 barkman, a leading manufacturer of precast concrete products for residential, commercial, agricultural, and municipal applications requires a Payroll Administrator to join our Finance team, in our Steinbach Office. 

In this role, you would be responsible for but not limited to: 
  • Processing work hours and full cycle bi-weekly payroll for 200 to 300 hourly and salary employees using an in-house payroll system (employee count flexes depending on season)
  • Benefit administration including benefit enrolments/changes/terminations, reconciling, monthly billing and invoicing, monthly reporting for Finance and updating group insurance rates in payroll
  • Filing and reporting ROE’s, T4’s, T2200’s, T4A’s, Payroll Tax, WCB annual returns, etc
  • Assisting supervisors in editing and coding hours correctly and understanding payroll guidelines
  • Applying and enforcing company policies and employment standards regarding payroll such as banked overtime, statutory holiday pay, protected leaves, hours of work, etc.
  • Producing payroll reports bi-weekly and as requested by management
  • Communicating with payroll software provider to maintain, upgrade, and improve performance
  • Primary contact for uniform rental company in adding and deleting employees and inquiring about uniform issues

To qualify for this role, you will have:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related payroll function with practice in managing the processing of salaries, bonuses, commissions, and other forms of compensation
  • Education with the Canadian Payroll Association, Accounting or Human Resources a strong asset
  • Solid understanding of payroll software systems and internal controls
  • Knowledge of employment standards, audits, income tax forms, health benefits programs, retirement plans, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of accounting, general ledger, journal entries, and bookkeeping
  • Ability to prepare ad hoc reports using various software platforms, including Microsoft Excel
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
  • Strong work ethic, positive team attitude and focus on customer service
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills

Production Workers – Steinbach

Experience with concrete work and hand tools is an asset. Work requires manual physical labour such as lifting, bending, standing/walking on concrete floors, etc.

Flexibility in working Tuesday to Saturday shift. Ability to work extended shifts (overtime) on a regular basis to meet business demand during the peak season an asset.

Truck Driver/Step Installer

Barkman Concrete, a leading manufacturer of precast concrete, is currently looking for a Truck Driver/Step Installer to join our Winnipeg team.

Working within a team of two, you will deliver and install concrete steps to both our residential and commercial customers. This is an all season, full-time job with opportunity for overtime work.

Applicants must hold a minimum of a Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement. Knowledge of construction and being familiar with building sites is a benefit for the step install process.  Experience with cranes or off-loading equipment is an asset along with familiarity with driving throughout the city of Winnipeg. As a representative of our company, you will possess good customer service and communication skills, as well as a positive attitude.
